Now we have to worry about blow darts?!

This is just nuts.

According to this article in today’s News Journal, at least two bicyclists in New Castle County have been hit by blow darts.

Yes, blow darts.

So far, there are no serious injuries, but one cyclist is still waiting for the results of her blood test.

No matter how predictably we ride, no matter how we stay on roads with big shoulders, no matter if we ride single file, there are those who believe we should not be on the road.

Perhaps I am ascribing far too intellectual the motivations of the blow dart person or persons. As a cyclist who, like most of you, has had something thrown at me, I know that most of those people just want to lash out at someone and not have to worry about actually facing that person.

The cyclist is perfect for that purpose. Cyclists can’t really give chase, so it’s relatively safe for those who lack the character to face someone.

Us cyclists need to try hard to memorize the license plates and report these people. We can work with local law enforcement to make sure that we are at least safe from blow darts, for heaven’s sake.

Happy Monday,
In this article, a newspaper did a quick study of an intersection, watching to see if bicyclists stop for the stop sign.
Well, only about 13 percent of the cyclists came to a complete stop.
Since we lose many cyclists after they run a stop sign, is this a problem that should be adressed more? If so, then how can get the message out?
And my last question, and it is tougher? If there are no cars, and you slow to a crawl, do you stop completely? Or do you do the rolling stop?
